St. Andrews, Scotland

Edinburgh, Scotland

I’m FINALLY going to update this blog! Sorry it took me so long!

Last weekend was almost as great as this past weekend! (I’ll explain why this weekend was so wonderful later) On Saturday about eight of us Calvin students went to a small coastal town called Whitby. Whitby is located on the east coast and is surrounded by the North York Moors national park. This adorable town is known for its combined maritime and tourist tradition. The Whitby Abbey, which actually helped inspire Bram Stoker’s Dracula, is located here. Everything we saw that day was AMAZING!

On Sunday of that same weekend, our Calvin group went to a Manchester United game! Even though our seats were in the nose bleed section, we were all able to enjoy the game and celebrate with the players and the fans with Man U’s victory over West Brom!

This past weekend our group took a weekend trip to Scotland. It was definitely a fun filled weekend!

This weekend I…….

-traveled on a coach with 32 other people ALL the way to Scotland

-stayed in my first hostel (awesome experience!)

-hiked along Hadrian’s Wall (Roman wall that separates England from Scotland)

-went to Edinburgh Castle

-took a tour of Holyrood Palace (where Mary, Queen of Scots lived)

-trekked up Arthur’s Seat

-walked on St. Andrew’s golf course

-toured some of the University of St. Andrew’s (where Prince William and Kate went to school!)

-saw St. Andrew’s Castle and Cathedral

What an amazing weekend!!!

AHHh!!!!! Ok I’m soo sorry i haven’t written anything on here for a while….I just haven’t put as much time into as I thought I would……but don’t worry….after this weekend I promise I will update this as much as I can!

Last week, I was looking online for fun, cheap places we could go to in England and I found this place called Yorkshire Dales. It’s a national park just an hour and a half from York. Early Saturday morning eight of us Calvin folk traveled down to the York train station, purchased our tickets, and boarded a train heading to Skipton. Skipton was an adorable little town but it didn’t really have any place for us to hike, which is what we wanted to do. So we decided to ask someone and they said a little town called Embsay had some hills we could climb. After walking for about 1.6 miles we finally arrived in Embsay. The walk there was gorgeous! Beautiful English countryside views that included stonewalls, bright green grass, and of course loads of sheep. We ended up finding a hill that we were allowed to climb. I was a little apprehensive at first but once we started climbing all my apprehension went away. I had a blast! It was a ton of work and after 5ish hours of climbing through streams, piles of mud, and sheep feces we decided to call it a day! I tried to capture the Yorkshire Dales through photos but you can’t fully understand how beautiful it was unless you travel there! Enjoy!

Yesterday my group travel to Cambridge. It was a long day but definitely a day well spent. Cambridge is full of soo many beautiful buildings and so much history! It’s a university town and is most widely known as the home of the University of Cambridge, which includes Cavendish Laboratory, King’s College Chapel, and the Cambridge University Library. I visited King’s College (founded in 1441 by King Henry VI), St. John’s College, and Trinity College (most aristocratic college and has been the college of choice for the Royal Family). Prince Charles, King George VI and Sir Issac Newton were three of the most notable alumni of Trinity College. It was neat to see the library that contained Newton’s original lab reports and experiments!

While in Cambridge, a group of girls and I rode on a punt. A punt is a flat-bottomed boat with a square-cut bow, designed for use in small rivers. I was able to bargain the price down form 18 pounds to 5 pounds and with the 5 pounds we were able to see the backsides of all the colleges along the river. It was a wonderful experience!

Thanks for all the continuous prayers! Cheers!

My friend Ali told me to read this passage in her daily devotional book and of course God works in magnificent ways and the passage was EXACTLY what I needed to hear. Thanks all for the continuous prayers! and Thanks be to God!

February 4th

Bring Me your weakness, and receive Peace. Accept yourself and your circumstances as they are, remembering that I am sovereign over everything. Do not wear yourself out with analyzing and planning. Instead, let thankfulness and trust be your guides through this day; they will keep you close to Me. As you live in the radiance of My Presence, My peace shines upon you. You will cease to notice how weak or strong you feel, because you will be focusing on me. The best way to get through this day is step by step with Me. Continue this intimate journey, trusting that the path you are following is headed for heaven.

After church Jolene and I decided to go explore York. Here’s a sneak peak at what we found. Enjoy!

York is absolutely ADORABLE!!! I love it!!! Today we went to the York Minster. The York Minster is a Gothic cathedral and is one of the largest in Northern Europe. The minster is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the second-highest office of the Church of England and is run by the Dean of York. Our tour guide Richard was so enthusiastic about the Minster and loved telling us about all the history and detail of the church. later we went to an Evensong service. That was amazing! The angelic sounds of the boys and girls choir rang throughout this enormous building. I seriously thought I was in Heaven! That’s how amazing it was!

I’M HERE!!!!
